Make Your Mom SMILE This Mother’s Day

Make You Mom SMILE This Mother's Day

Here at H2O Orthodontics, we love to see our patients smile. Not just because we love to see your beautiful smile that we are working towards, but also because we love to see you happy. But this Mother’s Day, we want to make sure that all of our patients make their mom smile! This year, Mother’s Day falls on May 8th, leaving you with the perfect amount of time to plan the perfect day for your mom!

After asking around the office, the H2O Orthodontics team has come up with a few ideas to help ensure your mom has the perfect day that she deserves! But what should you do, where should you go, and how can you make her smile?

  • Plan a Day Trip: Your mom is likely busy every day of the week. Whether she works or not, being a mother can be extremely time consuming and stressful. So why not give her a day off and plan a nice day trip to somewhere she loves? We asked some of the moms on our H2O Orthodontics team where they envision their perfect Mother’s Day being spent and here are some of the top ideas. If it’s warm out, take a trip to the beach! Or, if your mom is in need of a relaxing day, bring her to a nail salon or a day spa. Maybe your mom is into adventures, why not spend the day at an amusement park? Or take a trip to the local zoo! Think about what your mom loves and start from there.

  • Presents from the Heart: Who doesn’t love getting a homemade present? The easiest way to make your mom smile is to make her a gift from the heart. Head out to your local craft store and look around. Maybe grab a canvas and paint to make her something to hang up. Decorate a picture frame and get a photo of the two of you to put in it. Maybe even learn how to make jewelry and surprise her with your newest talent! If you want to get your mom a present, homemade is one of the best ways to go!

  • Cook Her a Meal: We know how hard it can be to get out of bed early on a Sunday morning, but it’s all worth it to surprise your mom with breakfast in bed! This is a day to celebrate your mom, so why not make her a breakfast filled with her favorite foods! Pancakes, cinnamon rolls, waffles, eggs, muffins… our mouths are watering just thinking about it! If your mom isn’t a breakfast person, then what about dinner? Again, just stick with her her favorite foods and you’re ready to go!

There’s nothing better than seeing someone smile, so make sure to make your mom the happiest she can be this Mother’s Day! From Dr. Heidi Harman and the team at H2O Orthodontics in Olathe, KS, we want to wish all of the moms out there a Happy Mother’s Day and thank you for all that you do!

Can I Get Braces as an Adult in Jackson County, KS?

Orthodontics does not know an age limit. While many adults feel embarrassed or overwhelmed by the thought of having to undergo orthodontic treatment, the truth of the matter is that adult orthodontics is very common. In fact, statistics have shown that one in every five patients in orthodontic treatment is over 21! Heidi Harman Orthodontics believes in granting a beautiful smile to patients of any age. And while adult braces may seem like a scary idea, consider some of the following before ruling this treatment in Jackson County, Kansas out.

Braces can help your future. The age old saying “when you look good, you feel good” certainly applies to your smile. How many times have you been told to dress to impress on an interview? What about on a date or at a social event? Dressing to your best ability means wearing your best accessory, your smile. A smile can change everything about your look, your confidence, and therefore your future. Dr. Heidi Harman can help you get your best smile in Jackson County today. Braces will straighten your teeth, realign your smile, and help you put your best foot forward in the world.

It doesn’t have to be noticeable. Many adults shy away from treatment for fear of how they will look while in treatment. Adults often associate the idea of braces with traditional metal appliances, the ones that come with adolescent memories. However, in addition to traditional metal braces, Heidi Harman Orthodontics offers a variety of more fashionable options. These include Invisalign, the clear plastic aligners, and ceramic braces, which are similar to traditional though clearer and less visible. These two alternative take the “awkward teenager” idea out of braces, and put the “glowing smile” in.

The cost won’t kill your wallet. Of course, in today’s economy, cost is important to consider. However, depending on how severe the case, the cost of orthodontic treatment can and will vary. Often, traditional braces will cost upwards of $4,000 (with some less expensive options). Invisalign or clear braces will most likely be a bit higher in price (ranging from about $5,000 to a possible $10,000), but depending on how extensive the treatment may be relatively equivalent.  Dr. Harman can assess your case individually and match the price that is right for you. The Heidi Harman Orthodontics team is eager to make your experience as cost effective as possible. These prices may seem like a pretty penny, however braces will increase your confidence and your overall look for the rest of your life; something that could be defined as a priceless investment. Moreover, your personal health care plans may cover some of the costs. Ask your insurance provider and Dr. Harman for more details.

It is never too late to start straightening your smile. After all, braces can help your job and personal life, without costing too big of a budget. Heidi Harman Orthodontics provides many alternatives to traditional treatment, including Invisalign and clear braces in Jackson County, KS. Brushing up on Dental Care Basics

Oral health begins with clean teeth. Keeping the area where your teeth meet your gums clean can prevent gum disease, and keeping your tooth surfaces clean can help you avoid cavities. Dr. Heidi Harman of Harman Orthodontics offers the following tips to her patients in Overland Park, KS:

Brush your teeth at least twice a day. When you brush, don’t rush. Dr. Harman recommends brushing for two minutes twice a day, and more frequently if you have braces — take enough time to do a thorough job.

Use the proper equipment. We at Harman Orthodontics recommend using a fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush that fits your mouth comfortably. Electric/battery-operated toothbrushes reduce plaque and the chance of gum disease more than does manual brushing, and these devices are helpful if you have arthritis or other problems that make it difficult to brush effectively.

Practice good techniques. Hold your toothbrush at a slight angle — aiming the bristles toward the area where your tooth meets your gum. Again Dr. Harman reminds patients that keeping the area where your teeth meet your gums clean can prevent gum disease. Also, don’t forget to gently brush the outside, inside and chewing surfaces of your teeth, as well as your tongue, with short back-and-forth motions.

Keep your equipment clean. Always rinse your toothbrush with water after brushing. Dr. Harman  also stresses that you store your toothbrush in an upright position, if possible, and allow it to air-dry until using it again. Toothbrush Tip: don’t routinely cover toothbrushes or store them in closed containers, it can encourage the growth of bacteria.

Know when to replace your toothbrush. Invest in a new toothbrush or a replacement head for your electric or battery-operated toothbrush every three to four months — or sooner if the bristles become frayed.

Follow these basic tips daily and keep up with your appointments to Harman Orthodontics and you’ll have the best smile in town! Call Dr. Harman TODAY at 913.782.7223, if you’ve missed or need to schedule an appointment.
